Volunteering with Kaiser SF's Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) allowed me to provide one-on-one bedside support to older adults by assisting with orientation, mobility, feeding, and therapeutic activities to reduce delirium, while gaining exposure to advanced geriatric nursing care through shadowing a geriatric clinical nurse specialist.
I volunteered with my mother through National Nurses United for Project Open Hand, helping prepare and deliver meals to seniors and community members living with chronic illnesses. It was a meaningful opportunity to support health, nutrition, and connection within our local community.
Participating in Red Cross Club activities during 2020 and 2021 allowed me to actively engage in meetings, training sessions, fundraising efforts, and community service projects. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Cross Club provided a meaningful way to stay connected to my community and contribute to causes that support public health and emergency response.
Participating in the Poverty Simulation in January 2023 was an experience that deepened my understanding of the barriers low-income communities face. It highlighted how limited time and resources can make healthcare feel like a luxury. Earning this certificate reflects my commitment to providing empathetic, accessible care in community health.
I completed 110 volunteer hours with the Oceana Nursery Program in Pacifica, a partnership between the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, National Park Service, and Oceana High School. Engaging in ecological restoration and community gardening, I worked at sites like the Oceana Native Plant Nursery, Milagra Ridge, and Mori Point. Developing patience and a deep respect for nurturing life, it reinforced my belief that caring for both people and the planet go hand in hand.
In 2020, I participated in Red Cross's volunteer activities dedicated to writing heartfelt cards for veterans. Taking the time to express gratitude and appreciation through handwritten messages was a meaningful way to honor those who have served our country.
