Perseverance
Earning my RN license confirmed my foundational clinical knowledge and skills, boosted my confidence as a nurse, and marked my commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
A success
Becoming certified as a Public Health Nurse validated my expertise in community and population health, strengthened my confidence in practice, and demonstrated my commitment to advancing health equity.
Completed a comprehensive education course focused on fundamental ECG rhythm recognition, cardiac anatomy, and identifying common arrhythmias. I learned to identify normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms and apply appropriate clinical interventions to support safe and effective patient care.
I completed a Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training course, where I learned evidence-based strategies for preventing and managing infections in long-term care. This included monitoring trends through surveillance, implementing outbreak control measures, educating staff on infection prevention practices, and ensuring adherence to CMS and CDC regulations to maintain a safe environment for residents, families, and staff.
I completed a CEU course on Therapeutic Communication With Families of Pediatric Patients, where I gained practical communication strategies for supporting parents and caregivers during stressful clinical situations. The course emphasized empathetic listening, conflict de-escalation, family-centered care, and collaborating with families to promote understanding, informed choices, and patient wellbeing.
I completed a CEU course in Opioids and Chronic Pain Management, which emphasized the principles of assessing chronic pain, implementing non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions, and promoting safe opioid use practices. The course enhanced my understanding of dependency risks, screening tools, patient education, and strategies to improve quality of life while reducing opioid-related harm.
This capstone project focused on preventing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in patients with urinary retention due to stroke, spinal cord injury, or other neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions at an Acute Rehabilitation Unit. These patients often require frequent catheterization, increasing their risk for infection. After reviewing hospital protocols and collaborating with nursing staff, it became clear that focused education was needed to reinforce best practices in catheter care. The project involved an infographic, oral presentation, and research paper aimed at improving nurses’ knowledge of proper catheter use, hand hygiene, and peri-care, as well as educating patients on CAUTI symptoms and prevention strategies for home care. The intervention was well received, with staff suggesting broader use of the materials. Research was based on recent literature from CINAHL and CDC guidelines, emphasizing relevance to rehab and med-surg settings. This project supports ongoing education as a key strategy to reduce CAUTI rates and improve patient outcomes.
This paper reviews the effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in treating schizophrenia, particularly in severe or treatment-resistant cases. By analyzing recent clinical trials, it evaluates ECT’s impact on symptom reduction, treatment response, and patient outcomes, concluding that ECT shows promising benefits, but requires further research to clarify its long-term effects and clinical indications.
